02:34 SciLA-1 : CFF teacher who would not take suggesitons is now taking them with the equipment

02:34 SciLA-1 : Active board is chaning classrooms

02:35 SciLA-1 : Senior electronic portfolios are up and running

02:35 SciLA-1 : WHY ARE YOU HERE TODAY

 02:35 SciLA-1 : and don't say bc I made you!

02:35 DylanA : Things going well: teachers who care.

02:36 khokanson-1 : SLA is great about starting "conversations" forcing folks to think about where they will go next

 02:36 khokanson-1 : always something to learn

02:36 SciLA-1 : here b/c of knowing Lehmann from NECC

02:36 SciLA-1 : and the title of the session

02:37 SciLA-1 : letting the curriculum drive the technology in the school

02:39 DylanA : Hey! Were not kids.

02:40 khokanson-1 : Was at SLA for Educon when he gave the project to the students and it was VERY cool to follow on their blogs

 02:40 SciLA-1 : yes

 02:40 SciLA-1 : same project

02:41 khokanson-1 : can I drop the blog urls in the chat room

 02:41 SciLA-1 : yes please

02:43 dwarlick : Marcie, how are you getting the screen to project through USTREAM?

 02:43 khokanson-1 : http://www.scienceleadership.org/drupaled/E10D

 02:43 SciLA-1 : I have used camtwist

 02:43 SciLA-1 : it is great

 02:43 khokanson-1 : @david probably using camtwist

02:44 SciLA-1 : if you google it you can download and start this in 45 seconds

02:44 dwarlick : Just checking!  It's an incredible tool.  Not very good at it yet...

 02:44 khokanson-1 : http://www.scienceleadership.org/drupaled/E10C

02:45 khokanson-1 : david there is one for PC too...

 02:45 lray9 : Hi Green

 02:45 khokanson-1 : similar to camtwist

02:45 dwarlick : Really?  I didn't know that.  Is it also called Camtwist?

02:45 khokanson-1 : no let me see if I can retrieve it

 02:46 IzTheHaVoK : http://www.ustream.tv/channel/havok-show

02:46 IzTheHaVoK : check it out if you like army of two

02:46 khokanson-1 : manycam is the name of it

 02:46 IzTheHaVoK : http://www.ustream.tv/channel/havok-show

02:47 dwarlick : Who is the audience.? Are they new coaches for CFF?

02:47 khokanson-1 : some teams from CFF districts...others are districts moving to 1:1

 02:47 khokanson-1 : not just PA I am guessing

02:47 khokanson-1 : I am actually not there :( that is the beauty of the internet :)

02:48 bjornpederson : Is sound cutting in and out for everyone or is it just me?

02:49 khokanson-1 : it is a little in and out but seems to catch up

02:49 DylanA : It is cutting in and out for me also.

02:49 dwarlick : Yeah!  But I wish I could pop up and look around and see their faces! ;-)  I guess I'm old-fashioned...

02:49 elissarose : I really love the use of blogging for education.

02:50 khokanson-1 : @dwarlick...I think david jakes or dean shareski have used many cam.  I saw it recently in somone else's preso

02:50 khokanson-1 : you can actually switch inputs with both applications. You can plug in an external camera and switch back and forth with them

02:51 khokanson-1 : really powerful statements from kids

 02:54 SciLA-1 : please share comments now

 02:54 SciLA-1 : about this conversation...

02:54 DylanA : It would be great to see another teacher do the same things Chase does in our classes.

 02:54 SciLA-1 : I notice, I wonder What if

02:55 bjornpederson : I notice that this model could blend quite nicely with the Adventure Learning Model (Doering).

02:55 Bellefaire : I notice that there are many viewers of this show

 02:55 khokanson-1 : DOING GREAT!!!!

02:55 DylanA : As far as connecting with us. The hand shakes, the hgcs, the good news.

02:55 khokanson-1 : I wonder what the one thing people will take away and implement will be

02:56 khokanson-1 : What if everyone made a commitment to do just ONE of these things

02:57 khokanson-1 : Marcie how long is your session

 02:58 SciLA-1 : hour

 02:58 SciLA-1 : we are 30 mins in

02:59 DylanA : Do you have another session tomorrow Ms. Hull? or will you be back at school with us?

 02:59 SciLA-1 : I have another session tomorrow

03:00 dwarlick : This kind of exchange/conversation is what all teachers want.  What's the secret? (big question)

03:00 dwarlick : Is it the teacher?  The computers?  The students?  The school?  A spirit?

 03:00 khokanson-1 : @davidw...the secret...EVERYONE shares the philosophy

 03:00 DylanA : Bummer.

03:00 bjornpederson : Is this session being recorded/aechived?

 03:01 scmorgan : I agree...from Chris on down

03:01 khokanson-1 : they have TIME for collaboration

 03:01 SciLA-1 : @warlick,  I always answer kids, content, technology

03:01 khokanson-1 : among the faculty AND advisory...among the students

 03:01 SciLA-1 : transparencey helps too

03:02 khokanson-1 : Marcie that is SO TRUE...you all are policy IN PRACTICE

03:02 khokanson-1 : you don't worry about having all the answers before you start

03:02 khokanson-1 : you allow YOURSELVES to inquire and learn

03:02 khokanson-1 : as well as the kids

03:04 SciLA-1 : gotta be about the kids

03:04 DylanA : As a student I think our only serect is that we all understand the philosophy of being life long leaders.

03:05 khokanson-1 : I think the BIG hope is that a session like this is where the conversation STARTS and the folks will go back to their districts and continue to ask these big questions

03:05 scmorgan : Did you know that before SLA, @DylanA or did you get it there?

03:05 dwarlick : @dylana -- Bingo!  You win the prize...

03:05 DylanA : It's about teaching the students not a subject right Ms. Hull?

03:05 dwarlick : @dylana ..  Oh No, Dylana.  You just lost 10 points...

 03:06 SciLA-1 : that is a great place to start D

03:06 SciLA-1 : go a bit further with that thought now

 03:06 SciLA-1 : we do teach kids

03:07 dwarlick : I see a contradiction between "teaching the students" and "lifelong learning philosophy."

 03:07 dwarlick : But that's just me...

 03:07 SciLA-1 : say more Mr. Warlick

 03:07 SciLA-1 : What is the conradiction?

 03:07 DylanA : How come?

03:08 dwarlick : Lifelong learning (I call it "Learning Lifestyle") is about students learning to teaching themselves -- now how to be taught by a teacher...

 03:08 dwarlick : But that's just me!

03:08 scmorgan : Love how you model teaching right here SciLA-1

 03:08 dwarlick : Hi! SC...

 03:08 scmorgan : Hi David!

 03:08 SciLA-1 : scmorgan - you got it!

03:08 khokanson-1 : I don't think actually it is a secret at all... you guys have just found what works for you and your students by being open and talking about it

03:08 DylanA : Oh no I was talking about teach the students not just a subject when Ms. Hull said its about the kids.

03:09 SciLA-1 : you have to talk about what works and keep talking about it

03:09 scmorgan : ohhh, I"ve got to go to a meeting...thanks for this.

03:09 SciLA-1 : You are right D,  but what else works at SLA to get the kids to learning

03:10 dwarlick : I think that a big part of what works at SLA is responsibility.  It's what I see their, that students feel responsible for their own learning.

03:10 DylanA : Well it's the fact that our voice counts. That all of us knows which way we learn and we are able to show such ways in our projects.

03:11 DylanA : That we aren't held back by text books or test.

03:11 dwarlick : But that's just me, and I'm writing computer code right now at Starbucks.  Too much caffine and recursive code...!

03:11 khokanson-1 : very true david.   you can see that in how they take ownership of their work.  I followed the kids' blogs after educon it really helps to see what they are thinking...and THAT I think is where the technology is useful

03:12 Bellefaire : What motivates them to take responsibility?

 03:12 SciLA-1 : shout out to Lehmann's Advisory

03:12 DylanA : If not us who else @ dwarlick. I feel as our teachers show us that they are not our only teachers that we can also teach our self. They show us this with such projects as the save the world one. Or one I did recently on African American histroy and music.

03:12 khokanson-1 : and not only do the kids take ownership, the teachers do too...they are invested in the process

 03:12 SciLA-1 : Shout out to Best's Advisory

03:13 dwarlick : That's obvious, KH, from the presentation... ;-)

03:14 khokanson-1 : and how many of them are "calling in" from school to participate

 03:14 khokanson-1 : kudos to them

03:16 khokanson-1 : or collaborating with colleagues while you WATCH television ;-)

03:16 DylanA : There is also the fact that we all know SLA is not a finish product and hopefully we never say we are because we are always open to new ideas and new tools to do these.

 03:16 DylanA : things*

03:16 khokanson-1 : @dylan and THAT my young friend will take you VERY far!!!!

03:16 dwarlick : Hey!  I cherish my Television time.  I think it should be part of the job -- on-the-job.

 03:16 dwarlick : But that's just me...

03:17 DylanA : @Kh hopefully it does and when I become a teacher I can teach my students the same things.

 03:17 dmascioli : hello

03:18 Bellefaire : I still have the question about what motivates the kids: do they see the bigger picture, connection to the rest of their life?

03:18 DylanA : Ms. Hull is it okay if I blog about your session tonight?

03:18 khokanson-1 : hey dana are you at Penn State?

 03:18 dmascioli : yes I am

03:18 dmascioli : Trouble logging n all day

03:19 dmascioli : Sla has fantastic energy

 03:19 SciLA-1 : D - yes

03:19 khokanson-1 : :( that is too bad...lots of laptops at Penn State I am sure

03:20 SciLA-1 : @Bellefaire - I think it is the modeling, and we truly are transparent, why we are teaching what we are teaching when

03:21 dwarlick : That's conversation -- the virtual and the real intersects...

 03:21 SciLA-1 : chase just said choices

 03:22 dwarlick : Empowerment?  They're empowered learners...

03:23 mmkrill : Better late than never

03:24 DylanA : We are empowered but not entitled.

03:24 khokanson-1 : hey michelle...q for you...is this mostly PA folks at the conference or are they from all over?

 03:24 khokanson-1 : @dwarlick was asking earlier

03:24 DylanA : It's really the fact that at SLA our voice matters. It doesn't lie on dead ears.

03:24 dwarlick : That's were the "responsibility" comes in, DylanA...

 03:25 DylanA : Yes that I understand.

03:25 mmkrill : @kh mostly PA, but some from Indiana, Miami and Minnesota

03:26 DylanA : As a student I see the bigger picture. I see how the things I learn inside our building also helps me learn outside the class room and building.

03:26 dwarlick : Empowerment and responsiblity kinda go hand-in-hand.  But that's not obvious.  It's why you need teachers...

03:26 DylanA : And how it helps  me in the real world. We see the connections from what we are learning and what we live.

 03:27 dwarlick : Go Marcie!

03:27 dwarlick : Ooops!  Got to go to the dentist!  Yuck!

03:27 mmkrill : Ease of use does facilitate more use.

03:27 DylanA : @ bellefaire that is my answer to you.

03:27 Bellefaire : Thanks Dylan and everyone.  It is so cool to get answers from real students.

 03:28 khokanson-1 : good luck David!

 03:28 mmkrill : @DW hopefully no drilling

03:28 DylanA : Any time. If you have more questions and need a student to answer them you can always come to me.

 03:28 dwarlick : Bye!

 03:28 khokanson-1 : @dylan they can post them to you blog :)

03:31 DylanA :  Oh yeah they can. My durpal one and personal one doesn't have much on them but the idea of allowing other people other then my teacher hear my voice has just hit me. I check my personal one more just because I don't have my drupal set up likeOh yeah my blog is http://dylansvoice.blogspot.com/

 03:31 SciLA-1 : bye bye everyone!

03:31 DylanA : Sorry I went on to much.

 03:31 SciLA-1 : thanks for being here

03:32 DylanA : Bye Ms. Hull can't wait to have you back at school need some help on this circle thing.

03:32 Bellefaire : Not at all Dylan -- thanks for the link Bye All

 03:32 DylanA : Bye.
